Take the opportunity to develop, improve, deepen and broaden Your knowledge in Operant Conditioning together with Bob Bailey the best and most experienced trainer and teacher in Operant Conditioning in the world!

  • Bob is very experienced in teaching and applying Operant Conditioning.
  • Bob has trained more than 120 different species.
  • Bob has taught over a thousand animal trainers, using chickens as teaching models
  • Bob has trained, or supervised the training of more than 10,000 inividual animals.

Bob Bailey is a chemist and zoologist (UCLA).  He pioneered operant-based animal training methods in free-environment and production settings. Studying fishes, reptiles, and birds at UCLA in 1958 was Bob's first exposure to behavior analysis and ethology. After a stint in a biochemistry lab, and in the field as a fish & game biologist, he became the US Navy's first Director of Training. Joining ABE (Animal Behavior Enterprises) in 1965, Bob became Research Director, and then General Manager. Bob is also an inventor, designer, writer, teacher, diver,  photographer, and video editor.

The work Bob and his wife Marian Breland Bailey Ph.D. (who sadly passed away September 25, 2001) has been at tremendous value to animal trainers, teachers, behaviorists, scientists and many other proffessions al over the world.

Workshops about Operant Conditioning
Keller and Marian Breland taught their first animal trainer classes in 1947 and 1948. They used chickens as models. The Brelands spent many years searching for a better behavioral model than chickens, but they always came back to the common barnyard fowl. Bob and Marian Bailey continued using chickens to teach novice and experienced trainers. With Marian's passing, Bob will continue the Bailey & Bailey tradition.

BAILEY & BAILEY IN-DEPTH WORKSHOPS are intensive and thorough introductions to what is known as applied behavior analysis. These workshops are designed for professional animal trainers or those training hobbyists who are serious about their pastime. Each student must shape the behavior of at least two chickens. The IN-DEPTH WORKSHOPS are at least 40 hours in length and are physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding.

Bob Bailey's philosophical point of view on teaching animal training is that training is a mechanical skill and the understanding and skillful practicing of a few simple behavioral principles are keys to trainer success.

Bob uses lectures, discussions, and animal models to teach the principles of animal behavior. Hands-on exercises using animal models, usually chickens, allow the student to learn by doing.
